Executive Board Meeting Minutes
The Executive Board was called to order March 4, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. in Fife, Washington by Director, Brian Gallagher.
Treasurer, Jim Nielsen provided an update on the legislative progress made with H.B. 3227 - the Collective Bargaining issue. Jim shared letters of support that he had received from the Machinists and Woodworkers Union and other industry associations. The legislation will be reintroduced during the 2007 Session of the State Legislature. We have sponsorship for the bill onboard and additional support is growing. H.B. 3227 was the most talked about legislation during the 2006 session and NWLTC is being watched with great interest.
An upcoming meeting between Brian Gallagher, Jim Nielsen and Washington Forest Protection Association representatives Bill Wilkersen, Bill Garvin, and Debora Munguia was brought to the table for discussion. An informational update will be provided following the meeting.
The possibility of commercial truck insurance for NWLTC members was the next topic raised. Jim Nielsen indicated that he had been researching the feasibility of setting up a Co-Op insurance program for members. Further conversation will follow.
Discussion of webpage updates, newsletter frequency with Board participation in a dedicated column along with a new web-page *classified advertising program for members was brought to the table. *(Please see previous page for CONSIDER IT SOLD information)
Jim has contacted several fuel jobbers with regard to a commercial fueling program for Co-Op members. To date he has spoken with Small Oil, Wilcox & Flegel and APP. The distributors are putting together figures for consideration by the Board. Members would be required to fill out a credit application with the distributor and the billings would go directly to the trucking companies participating. There is definite interest in giving the Co-Op members a price break for participation in the program. More information will be available soon.
Changes in compensation structuring was discussed.
Jim updated the Board on this year's participation by NWLTC at the Oregon Logging Conference held in February in Eugene, Oregon. The Logging Conference is the largest trade show west of the Mississippi and has national and international attendance. The Co-Op staffed a booth providing information to conference attendees about NWLTC, its goals, legislation and future direction for the membership. He said that there was a great deal of interest in our accomplishments and the memberships in Washington and Oregon are growing rapidly. He added that the flyers that were printed were well received and many visitors to the booth took Membership Applications with them to fill out and join. It was a terrific opportunity for exposure to the general public and industry colleagues alike.
Newsletter writing assignments were given out to the Board as follows: Jerry Eaton - April and May; Tracey Lutton - June and July; Gary Barnes - August and September; Wayne Tuthill - October and November; Brian Gallagher - December and January; Jim Nielsen - February and March.
With no further discussion the meeting was adjourned.
